I use open ear earbuds for public places. These are low-tech but very functional. The audiologist suggested using soothing sound to mask loudness. It works. Ear plugs can increase sensitivity over time. I have a nature sounds over water playlist that is my favorite. My boyfriend notices I am much more relaxed and we can communicate better in noisy places. I feel much better with these.
I do not like the wire configuration, the cord part that plugs into my phone. I do really like the discreet and comfortable ear wire / speaker configuration. I may go to a wireless option as suggested by my audiologist but it is over $3500. This is a very helpful device for the interim.
I use it at the gym, in restaurants, any noisy venue. Of course you can play your favorite music as well, for times you aren't blocking noise.
