Yikes! That's such an accurate description of being in an insecure relationship. 

I had the same thing with my ex - music was a massive part of what tied us together, and was an intoxicating part of my attraction to him. He wrote me a song actually, and it's very very hard to not listen to it now we've broken up. He also sent me a playlist with songs that were all chosen for their lyrical aptness to how he felt about me at the time. It's hard to not listen to that either.

So I made my own playlist of songs that reflect how I feel about him now since we broke up... Some are chosen to help me get over him, including Kasey Musgrove's 'Space Cowboy'. It's an awesome reminder for me to keep going on the no contact road. But I've definitely got quite a few on there that are full of regret and wishing it were different. Sigh.

Ahhhh yes, I totally get it Deanna. Some days are killer for me as well, today included. I have this deep, buried fear that I'll never meet anyone as suited to me as this guy was - but I know that's coming from a place of lack and fear instead of believing that the right things are going to flow to me because of all the lessons I've learned about myself.

The moments where I feel strong and more like myself are getting more frequent. I hope that today is a good, strong one for you.

Okay. Here’s a good song that also expresses how I feel about my ex at this point in time. Just reminding me that I have this picture of him in my head that isn’t fully based on reality. A projection of what I wanted rather than what he was actually able to offer. Wanting to believe his words so much but deep down knowing that his words could not be trusted. And the heartbreak and denial of that realisation.

I'm very intrigued by reprogramming through music - I agree introvert that playing some music - especially over and over in a loop - can drag out the pain, but I've also found it helps me get it/ them out of my system, including because I eventually get sick of the song

Moving and getting some endorphins going has got to be a lot better than reliving heartbreak in a sedentary fashion. Assuming you aren't triggering heartbreak with sad songs and then dancing your ass off to them lol! The body needs to move, to feel hope. That's what I believe anyway. It's super hard sometimes to give your body what it needs especially if you're feeling down but I think our bodies do reward us when we remember they exist and we let them feel good.
